Payment by Instalments: how does this work?

Start by choosing the month of the exam you want to study toward.  You’ll then be offered the choice to either pay in full, or ‘Pay by instalments’, if this option in available.  It is not possible to both claim a discount and pay by instalments.

It is a condition of payment by instalments that your card allows automatic payments: if your card does not allow automatic payments please contact your tutor, who may be able to help.

If you choose the ‘Pay by instalments’ button you will see the payment plan details.  Click ‘view more’ to see the exact dates of your future instalments under this option.

You’ll need to make your first instalment immediately.  Click ‘Add to basket’ and make payment.  You will be enrolled automatically on your chosen course.

Future instalment payments are automatic (taken from the same card).  It is a condition of signing up for payment by instalments that this option is enabled on your card, and that you have adequate funds or capacity on your account when instalments fall due.

If, for any reason, your automatic payment is unsuccessful then all remaining payments become immediately due.  Your tutor will supply you with a manual ‘payment by invitation’ link to enable you to make this payment.  If you do not make this payment you will be excluded from your course, and no refund will be due.

Instalments may either be managed by:

  • your Tutor: see the first set of questions below, or
  • by MAQ LearnOnline: see the second set of questions below.

Subscriptions managed by my Tutor: Frequently asked questions

Q: How do I know when a subscription is managed by my Tutor?

The confirmation of your deposit payment will come from a Stripe account registered in your tutor’s name.

Q: What you have to do to make instalment payments?

Future instalments will be collected automatically as long as there are funds available on the card you used to make your initial payment.  You will receive a reminder that an automatic payment will be taken the day before your next payment date.

Q: What happens if my instalment payment fails due to insufficient funds?

Your tutor will re-attempt to collect payment over the next 7 days.  If they are not successful then your course enrolment will be suspended and they will contact you / send you a manual payment link to make payment.

Q: What should I do if I know my instalment payment is going to fail?

Please access your Stripe Customer Portal.  You should have a link to this in the Stripe email you received when you made your deposit payment.  This portal allows you to change your card. If you cannot access your Stripe Customer Portal then please contact your tutor.

Q: What happens if my instalment payment still fails?

If your payment fails then you will receive an email notification of this failure, together with a direct payment link.  Please use that link to make payment.  If you do not make payment then you risk suspension from your course until payment is made.  You will still owe this instalment to your tutor, so LOP will collect outstanding fees from future bookings if you subsequently rebook another course on any LOP controlled platform, which may result in your suspension from your subsequently booked course.

Q: Can I pay my next instalment(s) early

This is not currently possible with Stripe subscriptions.  Please contact your tutor.  Your tutor may suggest you make a payment on account, and then amend your subscription to reflect this payment.

Q: Can I change my Payment card?

Yes.  Please access your Stripe Customer Portal using the link sent to you in your deposit payment email.

Q: I still have payments to make under a ‘special agreement’ with my tutor.  What should I do?

Ask your tutor for a link to their ‘Payments on account by invitation only’ page. There you can state how much you want to pay and what this is for, and make payment to your tutor.  This link is usually also shown in the ‘instalment payments’ tab of your course description (where you first ordered your course).
